Penarth Civic Society objects to Aqua Park at Cosmeston

MEMBERS of Penarth Civic Society have written and open letter of concern and opposition to renewal of the contract for the Aqua Park at Cosmeston.
They have called on Rob Thomas, Managing Director of Vale of Glamorgan Council, not to repeat this year's event.
The site was used for the first time during the summer for the attraction, but it is claimed it has caused problems for wildlife.
Members of the Society wrote:
Following a recent committee meeting our Society has voted to oppose the current development and to request that the current contract is not renewed next year.
We are very concerned that there has been a very detrimental effect on wildlife in the area, in particular there are only two swans left on the lakes as many have been driven away.
Birdlife by the visitor centre has also drastically changed, there are a few ducks but seagulls are now the most prominent residents.
We are told that teenagers are using the facility at night, after the facility has closed. This will be causing further distress to wildlife.
The Society discussed the project when it was announced but held an opinion in reserve, having assumed that the Council had taken advice from its Ecology Officer. Now that the facility is operational we feel that it is having a very detrimental effect on the lake.
