Residents and staff at MHA Ty Gwyn care home in Penarth recently welcomed visitors from the Redeemed Christian Church of God, House of Praise Cardiff to the home.

They were greeted by Karen Jennings who is the chaplain based at the home and were introduced to the residents and staff.

Karen invited them to stay for the weekly church service which they accepted. The lounge was full of residents eagerly awaiting the weekly church service who welcomed their new friends to the home.

The service on Wednesday, 19 April was soon underway with Karen conducting the service with hymns, readings, and prayers. Both staff, residents and guests joined in filling the corridors with sounds of rejoicing and hymns.

Residents unable to attend the service were able to hear the singing and join in.

At the end of the service guests blessed all the staff and residents in the home and as an act of kindness donated a huge supply to toiletry items to the home for residents and staff to utilise during the cost-of-living crisis.

Neil Chadwick the Community Co-ordinator based at Ty Gwyn said: "The generosity of the church and their congregation is overwhelming, this will go a long way to help our residents and staff who may be feeling the financial pinch during the current economic climate."

Mr Chadwick went onto say: "Karen and I are going to keep in touch with the church and invite them back to the home to engage with the residents and staff as everyone enjoyed the visit and service today.

"We already have links with several of the other churches in and around Penarth and with links like this it allows the home to build stronger links with the local community and open up new channels of worship for residents to engage with.."
