Penarth bakery overcomes pandemic adversity to celebrate two year anniversary
A Penarth bakery that opened two months before the first coronavirus lockdown began is celebrating its two-year birthday with a competition for two people to enjoy a coffee and pastry.
Danish bakery and coffee shop Brød on Glebe Street today (Friday, January 7) thanked people in the local community for the support they have shown since its arrival in Penarth back in 2020.
The second branch founded by owner Betina Skovbro (it followed the success of a Pontcanna predecessor, opened by Skovbro in 2015 in circumstances of a less impending-global-pandemic nature), Brød has continued to put its best foot forward despite times coronavirus kept its best food back from people in Penarth.
Speaking to Penarth Nub News, Betina said she and the team at Brod "feel so privileged that the residents welcomed and supported us through the last two very strange years."
"I'm so proud of the team who has worked tirelessly through the pandemic to keep us afloat, she added.
With talent that runs in her family – Betina's grandfather was a baker in Copenhagen – it is perhaps of no surprise Penarth residents flocked to Brød's warm-from-the-oven sourdoughs, traditional Danish pastries from snegl to spandaeur and all-embracing Hygge ethos whenever virus rates allowed.
In thanks to the local community on its two-year anniversary, Brod is running a competition for long-time customers (or anyone wondering what all the fuss is about) to flock for free.
To win a coffee and pastry for you and a friend all you have to do is go to follow Brød on Instagram (find them here as thedanishbakery, then give its birthday post (this one) a like, tag a friend and share the post to your story. Each tag equals an entry so tag multiple times if you'd like to up your entries!
The lucky winner will be chosen at random on January 8, so if you're sweet tooth's aching move quick!!
