Penarth Athletic Club has been granted a five-year lease on an unused former external changing room that the club have refurbished into a new fitness facility for rugby club members.

Penarth Rugby Club, who form part of the athletic club, refurbished the building before realising it was not part of the current lease.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council agreed to a lease that will run concurrent with the existing lease agreement between the two parties.

The length of the newly agreed lease will then allow all leases at this site to be renewed at the same time.

Renovations came at no cost to the council, who recognised the "significant work" undertaken to improve a building "previously thought to only be suitable for demolition", read the report.

Vale of Glamorgan Council leader Neil Moore was happy to agree the lease, saying it "regularises something that is already there in the first place."
