Penarth: Alexandra Park tree loses large branch in Storm Evert

2nd Aug 2021 | Local News

A footpath in Alexandra Park has been closed off after a large branch fell from a horse chestnut tree.

The incident is thought to have occurred over the weekend, when Storm Evert hit South Wales.

A tree surgeon working for the Vale of Glamorgan Council is currently at the scene.

He told Nub News the branch shows signs of having a "weak union", meaning it was too narrow to support its weight.

He said it will be cleared tomorrow (Tuesday 3 August). The tree will be inspected but he is hopeful it will not require felling.

The closed path is beneath the War Memorial and links the park's entrance with Alexandra Court.
