Oystercatcher and Police agree on outside bar licensing conditions
The Oystercatcher pub on Terra Nova Way has agreed terms with South Wales Police with regard to licensing their planned outdoor bar.
The brewery Greene King, who own the pub, are planning to revamp the existing beer garden.
If approved, they will build a bar out of a shipping container, add heated seating booths, and generally spruce up the space with lighting and a timber arbour as part of a "six-figure" investment.
The planning application entailed Greene King to submit a licensing application to South Wales Police, who initially objected on the grounds of "prevention of crime and disorder, public nuisance and protection of children from harm".
However, after a lengthy consultation period, an agreement has been reached.
Although South Wales Police initially stipulated that the outdoor bar would have to stop serving alcohol at 9pm, a spokesperson from Greene King has told Nub News that they agreed to extend that until 10:30pm.
"We're really excited to be planning a significant six-figure investment in refurbishing the Oystercatcher, including a new outside bar as well as further covered areas and heated outdoor booths," they said.
"Following the announcement from the First Minister that outdoor hospitality can reopen from 26 April we're thrilled to be working towards getting our amazing pub back open for the Penarth community.
"We have been discussing the operating hours of the outside bar with local police and authorities and have all agreed that it would remain open until 10.30pm."
South Wales Police also demanded that the pub install CCTV, operate a 'Challenge 25' policy, keep a crime and disorder incidence log, not allow off-sales from the outside bar, and not screen live sport in the outside area.
Whether South Wales Police made concessions on these terms as well is currently unclear, but a police spokesperson told Nub News that Greene King agreed to "a number of conditions".
We are awaiting further details.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council are now expected to make their final decision on the application in the near future.
