Sound engineer and Penarth Sounds co-founder Andrew Smillie has launched a service that aims to improve computer access for children in need across the Vake.

Andrew has appealed for unwanted used laptops and will use his technological talents to wipe and repurpose them into ChromeBooks.

With help from the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Andrew will then distribute the computers to families most in need of Internet access during this period of homeschooling and remote interaction.

According to education charity the Sutton Trust, around 15% of teachers have said that a third of their pupils do not have access to an electronic device to learn from home.

"I have three children at home, so I know how hard homeschooling is right now," Andrew tells Nub News.

"I can't imagine the difficulties of doing it without the appropriate technology. I felt that giving my time and skills was a way I could contribute to our area."

If you have an old laptop lying around the house, donate via the service's Facebook page.
