Cllr. Angela Thomas has been elected as the Mayor of Penarth for 2019/2020.

Angela Thomas represents the Plymouth Ward for Penarth Town Council. Thomas also served as deputy mayor in 2019/2020. This role included many duties and charity events alongside former Mayor, Cllr. Jon Luxton.

The appointment was made at the town council's annual general meeting on Friday the 17th of May. Cllr. Rhiannon Birch Wilson proposed Cllr. Thomas for the position which was seconded by Cllr. Laura Rochefort.

Angela named Emma Ross as her Consort. She will also be supported by Cllr. Mark Wilson, the council's Stanwell ward representative, who was elected deputy town mayor.

Cllr. Thomas succeeds Cllr. Jon Luxton as town mayor. The council acknowledged the work of Cllr. Luxton, for the dedication shown by himself, his Mayoress and his consort over the past year.

Cllr. Luxton is perhaps best known for his work with Gwyrddio Penarth Greening (GPG) and the Access Penarth campaign. His part in encouraging Penarth to become accessible to all was a major part of his mayoral efforts.

Angela will also fundraise throughout her year in office. Her nominated charity is the National Autistic Society Cardiff and Vale branch, a cause that is close to her heart.

Cllr. Thomas said "It's a great honour to be the Mayor of Penarth. I am looking forward to serving the people of Penarth over what's sure to be an exciting twelve months. I'm planning a series of charity events that reflect my own interests, including live music, dancing and coffee and not least, a charity Halloween Masquerade Ball."
