Following the recent nominations from the Glamorgan Drama League for the annual "Glammies", Penarth Operatic & Dramatic Society (PODS) have picked up another string of award nominations from NODA, the National Operatic and Dramatic Association.

Chess - the musical by Sir Tim Rice and Abba legends Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus - which PODS performed to sell-out houses at the Paget Rooms last year is nominated for Best Musical and Best Set Design together with Best Individual Performance awards for Neil Parker and Wayne Assiratti.

Two of PODS plays from last year also pick up nominations, including Best Drama and Best Set Design for Treasure Island together with a Best Supporting Performance nomination for Matthew Lee. The comedy Ladies' Day by playwright Amanda Whittington also receives a nomination for Best Drama.

PODS is well-known for providing first-class entertainment for the local community and this year celebrates its Centenary. 100 years ago, a small group of like-minded individuals met in Penarth Library to discuss setting up an amateur operatic society. A century later, PODS is still going from strength-to-strength and has an extended programme of events and productions to mark the occasion.

With one of the largest casts in its history for a play, PODS will be presenting as its first Centenary production Shakespeare in Love, the stage adaptation of the Academy Award-winning film. This lush and lavish romatic comedy is on at the Paget Rooms from 20th to 23rd March.

This will be followed in May by the Mel Brooks musical The Producers and in July, PODS youth section will be presenting the Alan Parker musical, Bugsy Malone.

Tickets for all PODS productions can be booked at www.ticketsource.co.uk/pods
