A meeting will take place in Penarth next week to consider action being taken to increase the number of trees in the region.

Penarth Civic Society has been campaigning since 2016 to persuade Vale of Glamorgan Council to plant more street trees in Penarth and to develop a strategy which would enable the authority to better care for existing trees in the area and to make sure the local tree canopy increases.

More than 170 trees have been planted in parks since the start of the campaign.

GPG (Gwyrddio Penarth Greening) have also been very active in trying to make Penarth's open spaces greener, having planted a community orchard at Cosmeston and developed the community garden at West House.

Vale of Glamorgan Council has now produced a draft tree strategy and has invited comments from the public.

The Civic Society and GPG are holding a joint meeting to discuss the strategy.

It presents an opportunity to hear about the work of the Society's Tree Forum and to hear from one of the council's officers who wrote the strategy. There will be time for residents to ask questions and to let the council's officers know your views.

The meeting, to which all are welcome, takes place on Thursday, 14 March at 7pm at St Augustine's Parish Hall, Albert Road. No charge for entry.
