Government minister for media and data John Whittingdale has praised Nub News for proving there is a strong demand for excellent, community-focussed local journalism.

The minister's glowing endorsement follows the expansion of Nub News into 62 towns across the country, including the launch of Hitchin Nub News in August last year.

Nub News has earned plaudits for its focus on community news - underlined by its soaring readership figures.

"I am delighted by the success of Nub News," Mr Whittingdale said in hailing the company that is revolutionising local journalism, adding: "Which proves there is still a strong demand for professionally produced local news content.

"Nub is now embedded in the local community and is already doing a great job providing a fast and reliable source of local news," the MP for Maldon told our sister site Maldon Nub News.

Nub News is an online newspaper whose mission is to put 'your town in your pocket'.

What this means is that we make local news easily accessible on all devices, particularly mobile, without intrusive pop-up advertising, enforced surveys or clickbait - while ensuring all our content remains truly local.

Nub News also provides local news, community news, what's on, local business listings, classifieds, jobs, property and obituaries - all the staples of a good local newspaper.

Nub News founder and chief executive Karl Hancock explained: "At Nub News, we focus on the community first and listen to what they want.

"We help to give a voice and an identity back to towns across the UK.

"Local news journalists should be in their communities talking with and listening to the people that matter."

"The country is moving back to a more town-centric approach where people care more about their towns and communities - and the Covid crisis has accelerated this trend.

"Whether you are a local business owner, sports club volunteer, photographer, town councillor or just a community-minded resident, we are here to represent you and want to hear from you."
