Secondary school Penarthians who ride buses to school have been told to wear masks when they return in September.

In a statement on their website, the Vale Council said:

"The council, is making it mandatory (i.e. a requirement) for Learners of secondary school age (aged 11 +) and drivers and passenger assistants to wear face masks while travelling on its contracted home to school transport services. Parents/carers will be responsible for providing pupils with face masks."

The move is in line with the Welsh Government's 27 July decision to make face masks mandatory on all public transport for those aged 11+.

Some parents have welcomed council's decision to take this specific measure. Han Bevmoh, parent of a pupil at Stanwell School, told Nub News:

"I'm happy about masks on buses, I think it's sensible and reassuring as a parent. My husband is a doctor and saw so many Covid deaths, so we know the importance of minimising the spread."

"[COVID-19 infection] numbers in Cardiff rising lately so this highlights importance of masks."
