A staff member at Pemarth's MHA Morel Court nursing home on Raisdale Road has delivered a pre-Christmas gift to residents and a charity that helps children with cancer.
Mandy Jenkins works as an administration manager the home and decided to shave her hair to raise funds for the home's amenities fund.
The shave took place at the home and Mandy was aided by her mum Diana and sister Gaynor as well as residents and staff.
Mandy has donated the locks to The Little Princess Trust, who provide free wigs for children and young people who have lost their hair because of cancer.
A JustGiving page has been set up and so far, with gift aid, more than £1,000 has been raised.
Speaking after the shave Mandy said: "I felt very emotional during the process but was very glad to see my family coming to support me.
"Shaving my hair is something I have never done before, but I feel the cause was worthy of it and I am very happy with the response so far.
"Some residents even joined in with the haircut and it was a very pleasant and fun experience in the end.
"The funds raised will go towards supporting the residents in whatever they want to do.
"There are plans to arrange some trips for residents as well as purchasing Christmas gifts.
"I do hope we raise as much money as possible so the wonderful residents can enjoy some great activities."
