Lockdown Photography on Penarth's Doorsteps

Katrina Dimech, a local photographer, took to the streets of Penarth last weekend to capture families, individuals and residents during the coronavirus lockdown.

From the project, Ms Dimech wanted to achieve two things: Capturing the moment and also raising money for a local cat sanctuary that is close to her heart.

We have compiled ten of these photos in the gallery above but there are many more to view on Shutterhire's website.

Nub News spoke to Katrina about her inspiration and how the images came together.

She said: ''I wanted to find a way to get out and use my camera again and knew that I could photograph families at their homes.

''I had seen others doing doorstep photography on some of the Facebook photography forums I'm a member of, it looked like a great idea.

"This was a personal project to document this strange time in history with the idea of possibly putting together an exhibition at a later date.

"I had lost all motivation and was feeling really low, I knew I needed to do something about it.

"Photography isn't just a job to me, it's part of my lifestyle, so with the recent sunny weather I decided it was time to pick myself up and do something within my community.

"Then I had the idea to combine this project with fundraising for a good cause.

"I had adopted a cat from a fantastic cat rescue back in March, during the lockdown the rescue isn't able to neuter or rehome many of their cats and kittens so there is an increased pressure on the rescue to care for them.

"I wanted to raise money to help with vet bills and to buy some cat food.

"There was a really great response from my advert with over 50 families offering to take part. I gave myself a limit of 25 home but ended up visiting 27. Donations weren't compulsory but I managed to raise £300 for Anna's Rescue Centre.

"I really enjoyed meeting new local families, I am still working on the edits almost a week later but am planning on going out to shoot again Saturday 23rd May.

"My partner also filmed the process and we made a lovely little video which you can see above."
