Lockdown Doesn't Stop the Party at Ty Gwyn

Back at the beginning of the year, Community Co-ordinator Neil Chadwick started planning for a special

bank holiday to commemorate 75 years of VE Day.

Unfortunately, due to the current situation with Coronavirus, these plans were no possible.

However, Neil endeavoured not to let the day go by without some sort of events taking place in the home.

With the help of several of the care staff, Neil put together some plans and ideas.

The ground floor lounge was turned into a 1940's house with the windows being taped up, bunting being put up in the front garden and around the communal areas of the home along with other decorations and even our own miniature recreation of the Battle of Britain.

Even the kitchen staff got involved by producing a 1940's classic lunch and afternoon tea.

The home started off the event with a 2-minute silence at 11 am where all the staff and several residents joined in to remember those brave men and women who had given their lives 75+ years ago.

This was followed by a superb and tasty lunch arranged by our kitchen team.

Maintaining social distancing several residents congregated in two of the lounges in the home for some music, dancing and reminiscing with their memories of the VE Day celebrations back in 1945.

Some of the residents even had a go at karaoke to some classic Vera Lynn songs including "We'll meet again" which had all the staff and residents singing it.

Afternoon tea so soon served with a selection of cakes authentic to the 1940's period followed by more singing and dancing.

The residents and staff all had a very enjoyable day, with the party being the talk of the home over the

weekend.

Neil the Community Co-ordinator would like to thank the staff who assisted to pull off such a successful party for the residents and the local community for all their assistance and donations over the past few weeks which have benefitted not just the residents but the hard-working staff as well.
