A Penarth based fitness class company, Live Fit Wales, have taken their classes online to help local residents keep active during the coronavirus lockdown.

With the lockdown and self-isolation meaning a lot of people cannot leave their homes, it is still very important to keep fit. There are strong links between exercise and a strong and healthy immune system.

Rae and Kath who run the classes said: ''We are running our classes live and online now directly into people's homes.

''We ran a free 20 minute class for families/primary schools who are open for key worker families today live on our Facebook Page. The feedback was great so we will do more of that.''

Pupils of key workers at Evenlode Primary School joined in with the live class along with other families across Penarth.

Kath continued: ''As of tomorrow, for 12 days at 9 am for 20 minutes, I am running a Welsh language family fitness class via S4C's YouTube channel.

''We are also going to create free content on our own YouTube channel to help families stay well and fit during this time.

''I will also be producing a Senior Flex video this week aimed at those 70+ that are self-isolating.''

Kath and Rae run LIVE fitness classes in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. Both were born in the Victorian town of Penarth, and have been childhood friends since they were 6.

Thirty-four years of friendship has resulted in them collaborating together and setting up and sharing their passion for health and fitness through LiveFIT Wales/Cymru.

Kath works for Headroom, a department within the care of mental health in the NHS focusing on youth psychosis.

Rae is the fitness and health expert for the World's largest shopping TV and Lifestyle network, QVC, & S4C's FFITCymru. She's also the go-to on health, exercise and wellbeing for BBC RadioCymru / RadioCymru2. In 2019 she joined the team at Penarth View. She is a regular columnist for the lifestyle and local information magazine and will be interviewing people from all walks of the health, fitness, sporting and wellbeing world.

Both Rae and Kath also instruct at local comprehensive schools, bringing a more contemporary form of fitness to teenagers who would otherwise have disengaged from keeping fit and healthy.

Keep an eye across their social media @livefitwales for day by day updates and developments.

Their website has a full rundown of their class timetables and prices which include a wide range of exercises to suit all ages and abilities.

The current government advice allows for one form of outdoor exercise a day.
