Helicopter Rescue on Penarth Beach

Penarth residents may have noticed the arrival of a helicopter on the seafront today after a man was taken ill on the Esplanade.

Penarth Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Whilst driving past the seafront on safety patrol we were stopped by a member of the public to assist with a medical incident.

"Assisted by members of the medical profession, our team co-ordinated the assets we had and set up an HLS with our team with two members from Barry Coastguard. Coastguard R187 Paramedics, who were training nearby, landed on the beach and took over treatment until Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust arrived to transport to Hospital of Wales for further treatment."

Barry Coastguard added: ''During our Safety patrol today, Our team were tasked with to Penarth Esplanade.

''Coastguard rescue helicopter brought Paramedics to the scene who treated the male before the Ambulance arrived to convey the male to UHW.''

This was not the only callout of the day for Penarth Coastguard. They were also tasked to 4 people cut off by the tide on Sully Island.
