The famous giant grizzly bear who has been a feature at Hamptons in Penarth for may years is looking for a new home.

"We're really sad to be saying goodbye to him" said Peter, one of the owners of Hamptons. "But we're in the process of extending the Food Hall upstairs at the store and we simply don't have space on the shop floor for him anymore."

Mr Bear, who stands just over six feet tall and has a motor inside which makes his head nod up and down has delighted children and adults alike and so many people have taken selfies with him.

Hamptons owner Andy explained Mr Bear's story:

"We bought him from a Paris soft toy maker in the mid 80's for a commercial Christmas display. Some of the stuffing was taken out to make space for the animation that makes his head nod.

"He made his debut as 'Daddy Bear' in a Golidlocks and the Three Bears themed Christmas display at Port Talbot Shopping Centre. He went on to appear in different displays around the UK before retiring and taking up residence with us at Hamptons."

Andy and Peter are selling Mr Bear by auction on Ebay with all the proceeds going to Many Tears Animal Rescue.

Hamptons has been a long term supporter of Many Tears and with the support of its customers has raised over £10,000 to support their work in finding happy ever after homes for abandoned and unwanted dogs.

Andy and Peter's Scottie, Max came from Many Tears after spending the first few years of his life on a puppy farm.

"The Ebay auction starts on Sunday 7th February at 2pm" said Peter. "Anyone interested in adopting Mr Bear can find a link to the auction on the Hamptons Facebook page - @hamptonspenarth - once the auction goes live on Sunday."

"We'll be sorry to see him go" said Andy "but hopefully someone who has enjoyed seeing him at Hamptons will be ready to adopt him. And it will be great to help raise some much needed funds for Many Tears at the same time."
