GALLERY: Rare winter sea fog sweeps across town

By Alex Jones

26th Feb 2021 | Local News

A large cloud of fog could be seen forming over the Channel before sweeping over the town on this otherwise clear February morning.

Known as Haar or Fret in some parts of the UK, coastal fog forms when relatively warm, moist air passes over a cool surface.

In the UK, the most common occurrence of coastal fog is when warm air moves over the cool surface of the North Sea towards the east coast of the UK.

It usually occurs in spring or summer, but the sunny and mild conditions of this morning seem to have produced a rare weather event.
