Cemetery Officer Adiran George and the Penarth Town Council Facilities team have been busy maintaining and improving the grounds of Penarth Cemetry. In addition to the annual Grass-cutting and pruning of the the 7-acre site officers have established a new scatter garden for cremated remains and introduced lots of helpful initiatives to improve the cemetery for all who use it.

The Scatter garden which is located to the rear of the cemetery chapel is filled with young climbing plants and colourful perennials which will eventually grow over the large pergola that runs through the garden. The scatter garden has been designed to provide a tranquil and pleasant setting to visit loved ones that have chosen to be cremated. Around the garden are flower beds which have been planted with a variety of bulbs and annuals that will flower throughout the year to provide colour and life to the garden

You may also notice that there are watering cans available to use so all visitors can freshen up any personal plants and flowers without needing to bring all their own equipment.

When the cut flowers do eventually wilt there are even new communal compost bins at each section of the cemetery, the compost is collected and used to feed the other flowering plants in the cemetery which saves on wase and costs.

In addition to this, the officers have introduced a new 'bug hotel' among the wildflower boarder of the cemetery. A 'bug hotel' is a fantastic way to encourage pollinators that will keep the cemetery thriving with plants and flowers. The hotel will also encourage pest-eating bugs like ladybirds that will keep aphids away from the roses.

New entrance signs are due to be installed next week.

Through the Summer, Penarth Cemetery is open to the public Monday to Friday: 8.30am to 5.00pm | Saturday, Sunday & Bank/Public Holidays: 9.30am to 5.00pm.

Children are welcome to visit but must be accompanied by an adult..
