The future of bvusinesses on a site close to Cowbridge is unclear following a decision by Vale of Glamorgan Council to refuse planning permission.

The site, Pantwilkin Stables in the village of Aberthin consists of a number of buildings that were formerly used by a large equestrian enterprise.

Retrospective planning permission was sought in November 2022 by the site owners, after a number of businesses started operating from the site.

Planning permission was sought for the change of use of equine buildings to employment uses, storage uses and a cafe.

However, that application has been rejected by Vale of Glamorgan Council on a number of grounds, including the risk of flooding and the fact that change of use and redevelopment would be harmful ti the rural setting and to the appearance and character of the countryside.

Some of the businesses that used to operate on the site have now closed and relocated. Ithers remain but their future is unclear.

Its understood from local sources that the Sofa Showroom 'Chase Living' is set to close in early 2024 that is part owned by the Land Owner to help comply with the terms set out by the Local Authority. 'Fredwell' closed in early December following several committed parties being completed and we understand that 'Penarth Motor Company' has also ceased trading.

Further local sources state that Popular National Businesses 'Leaping Wing' and 'European Airline Solutions' based at Pant Wilkin Stables may have missed out on tens of thousands in potential grants available to their respective Industries due to a lack of planning consent on their Offices; something that sources say they weren't aware of.

Businesses that continue to operate from the site since the planning refusal have commented that they have not been contacted by the land owner and state they are uncertain about the future.
