A flood warning has been issued for coastal areas including Penarth.

A flood warning is also currently in force for the following areas: coast at Aberthaw, coast at Swanbridge and Barry, coast at the Wentlooge Levels in the Newport Area, coast at the Wentlooge Levels in the Cardiff Area, coast at Caldicot Levels.

The flood warning is the second of three possible alert levels issued by Natural Resources Wales. The warning covers smaller, community-level areas where flooding of properties from rivers or the sea is expected.

Natural Resources Wales advises that you:

• move family, pets and valuables to a safe place

• turn off gas, electricity and water supplies if it is safe to do so

• put flood protection equipment in place

After a flood, the advice from NRS is to make sure it's safe to return to your property. It warns to take care as there may be hidden dangers in floodwater, such as sharp objects, raised manhole covers and pollution, and that flood water might have caused structural damage to your property.

If your electricity supply has not been switched off at the mains, get a qualified person to do this. Do not touch sources of electricity when standing in flood water.

The warning comes as high tide at Newport is expected to reach 7.59 metres at 6:45 AM tomorrow morning. The previous high tide at Newport reached a level of 7.37 metres at 6:15 PM this evening.
