Following extensive damage to a wall alongside a stream in Dinas Powys, calls have been made for urgent repairs to be undertaken.
The wall with a drop of about a metre into the stream was substantially damaged when a vehicle left the A4055, Dinas Powys and demolished about ten metres of a low wall and a substantial length of railings.
Now, Community Councillors have demanded urgent action be taken to make the site permanently safe.
Community Councillor Chris Franks said, "This is in effect a retaining wall for the main road. The pavement is well used by pedestrians especially school children and parents going to the Primary school. However, it is narrow with thousands of vehicles whizzing passed. If the stream is dry there is a significant drop. If there's floodwater this presents another hazard."
Community Councillor Richard Grigg a fellow Plaid Councillor said "The temporary barriers were welcome but took up some of the already narrow pavement. Plaid understands the wall is the responsibility of Natural Resources Wales. It would be intolerable if these barriers were left for a considerable time.
''We have been told that the incident occurred at 5.00 am on Saturday. It would be interesting to hear the police's comments on this matter."
