There must be a full inquiry set up to examine the causes behind the Dinas Powys floods, calls Community Councillor Richard Grigg, chair of Dinas Powys Community Council.

Councillor Grigg said that a significant number of properties have been flooded across the community.

He said: "It is extremely distressing that so many people's lives were been devastated on 23 December.

"It is important that any investigation is not left to the Vale Council or Natural Resources Wales to undertake.

"It must be an impartial organisation or individuals. Residents must be a part of any investigations.

"As far as can be determined the Fire Service was out in force on Thursday afternoon. However there was little sign of the Vale Council or Natural Resources Wales.

"Vehicles were still being driven into Dinas Powys in the direction of the Merrier Harriers heading into a deeply flooded Cardiff Road between the school and Dinas Powys station.

"Stranded cars were being towed away thanks to the generosity of van drivers.

"As usual there were very limited supplies of sand bags available from the Vale Council. Even then people had to collect from Court Road Depot in Barry. Supplies of sand quickly ran out.

"The Vale website still had not been update on Boxing Day.

"There really was no leadership from the Vale Council.

"Apparently the Parish Hall staff were able to offer more guidance that the Vale control number.

"NRW Facebook page has plenty of 'Christmas Greeting' but there is not one word about the impact of the Dinas Powys floods."
