The official reopening of the Dinas Powys Library and Activity Centre was celebrated by the local community.

A large crowd turned out to the event who were thrilled by the improvements and the entertainment provided by Wynne Evans of Radio Wales and 'Go Compare' fame.

The event marked the completion of a large remodelling of the building including the creation of a café and a meeting room.

Chair of the Library Trustees Chris Franks said, "The refurbishment has resulted in a building fit for the 21st century.

"We will never forget that our primary role is the provision of traditional library services.

"It must be a safe, warm, friendly environment for all the community.

"We want to attract all sections of our community and to ensure that people regard this Library and Activity centre as theirs.

"So now the next chapter in the life of the library is under way.

"Wynne Evans congratulated everyone concerned.

"He mentioned that his family had been very active in the restoration of the Lyric Theatre Carmarthen.

"He appreciated the huge amount of work involved. Such facilities are vital in every community."

Project manager Keith Hatton said, "The response from our users has been truly amazing. The completed project has exceeded all our expectations.

"Our sincere thanks go to our Architects, Loyn & Co. Architects, Precision Construction Wales and Trustees Marianne Cowpe and Clare Richardson.

"A special thank you to Bethesda Chapel for hosting our temporary library during the reconstruction."
