Joseph Powell, an eight-year-old from Sully, delivered 147 Easter eggs to vulnerable elderly people over the long weekend.

He did so after raising £435 by cycling three miles a day for 10 days straight.

Four care homes in Cardiff and Penarth received the chocolaty goodies, as well as 15 Sully residents who had been shielding throughout the pandemic.

A proud and tired Joseph says he was motivated by watching a video of a homeless old person on YouTube.

"It made me really sad," he tells Nub News.

"I just knew I had to do something to help. I couldn't sleep until I came up with a plan.

"I wanted to raise £100."

But the donations kept flooding in via a JustGiving page. One commented:

"You are only eight-years-old and already thinking of the vulnerable in our society, how amazing are you."

Joseph delivered the eggs on Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday.

"The people in the community were shocked," says his mum Lisa.

"People aren't used to random acts of kindness. A lot of them wanted to pay us for the eggs."

A member of staff at MHA Morel Court wrote Joseph the following in a Facebook post:

"Well done on your bike ride and a big thank you for the Easter eggs for residents, and flowers for us staff very appreciated."

Joseph is now enjoying a well-earned break.

"It was very hard work," he says. "My legs are still hurting. I went on my bike again yesterday and it was so hard."
