Chairs get together to boost four good causes
By Guest 1st Aug 2026
IN June a charity event, a Bavarian Night, took place at Millwood Bowling club, Barry, with entertainment by the 'Just Cheese Oompah Band'.
This was a joint venture between immediate past-chair of Dinas Powys Community Council, Councillor Jon Cowpe, and outgoing Mayor of Barry, Councillor Dennis Clarke.
Four charities were included; Valeways, Mind in the Vale of Glamorgan, Dinas Powys Library & Activity Centre (DiPLAC) & St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP). Cllr Jon Cowpe presented cheques for £250 each to Chris Franks, Chair of DiPLAC trustees & to Rosalid Trigg, Chair of local SVP at the library.
The library is celebrating its first 10 years as a facility run by over 70 volunteers. Its Library, Activity room and Café rely solely on donations and fundraising events. SVP has volunteers locally who visit vulnerable members of the public, creating a safe and friendly environment, providing support, connection and opportunity for those in need (https://svp.org.uk/).
