Boris Johnson has announced that the government is strengthening the measures announced earlier this week for members of the public to avoid social venues and has now made the move to close them down from tonight.

This will affect many local businesses across Penarth and the UK.

He said in his daily press briefing on the coronavirus today: "We are telling cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants to close tonight as soon as they reasonably can and not reopen tomorrow."

Takeaways will still be allowed to be sold during this time but this will be being monitored closely.

Places like nightclubs, cinemas and leisure centres and theatres will follow in the footsteps of these closures too.

He said that people should not go out tonight to those places.

Mr Johnson said: "We will get through this - we will get through it together and beat this virus".
