Residents of Dinas Powys, in the Vale of Glamorgan, are being advised to be alert to the risk of transmission of COVID-19, as numbers of cases in the village are rising quickly.

The latest figures from Public Health Wales show that 23 positive cases have been recorded in the last seven days and 60 in total over the past four weeks.

Dr Gwen Lowe, Consultant in Communicable Disease Control for Cardiff and the Vale, said: "Numbers are rising in Dinas Powys and residents should be taking all precautions in order to protect themselves.

"COVID-19 can spread very rapidly once it is present within a community.

"Fortunately, there are simple steps we can all take to protect ourselves and others.

"People should keep at least 2 metres apart whenever possible, wash their hands regularly, and wear a face-covering when indoors in shops or other public places.

"It is very important that anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 must book a test and self-isolate immediately."

The main symptoms of COVID-19 are a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, and a loss or change to your sense of taste or smell"

Anyone with any of these symptoms can book a test online at [L] www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test [.L].

Further guidance about how to stay safe from COVID-19 can be found online at gov.wales/coronavirus.
