Reno and her Angels ready to board the S.S American in Anything Goes

This spring Concept Players would like invite Penarth residents on a fun-filled musical voyage with Cole Porter's timeless Anything Goes.

The team have worked long and hard to bring this production to life after a couple of false starts due to the pandemic, tap shoes have been dusted off and the ship is waiting in the ship yard ready to set sail!

This colourful musical comedy that originally starred Ethel Merman in the role of Reno Sweeney, is set upon a transatlantic liner heading from New York to England with a motley bunch of passengers and crew.

Billy Crocker, a young New York stockbroker, is madly in love with the beautiful heiress Hope Harcourt. Whilst saying goodbye to his boss, the blustery Elisha J Whitney, Billy spies Hope embarking and immediately decides to stow away and win her heart. Hope, however, is due to marry the English aristocrat, the somewhat Woosterish figure, Sir Evelyn Oakleigh (after all, some of the story was written by P.G Wodehouse). Also on board are the sultry nightclub singer evangelist Reno Sweeney who brings a lot of sass to the show and Moonface Martin, a rather unsuccessful gangster (Public Enemy No.13) on the run with his moll.

Surround these characters with riotous comedy, mistaken identities, love forsaken (and regained) and you are guaranteed a great night. And how could anyone forget the songs? Add in such classics as You're The Top, Blow Gabriel Blow, I Get A Kick Out Of You and, the show stopper itself, Anything Goes, and you have an exciting, toe-tapping night of theatre.

The musical saw a recent glamorous revival in the West End starring Sutton Foster, Robert Lindsay and Felicity Kendall at the Barbican. The show has starred some big names in the musical theatre world over the years including Patti LuPone, John Barrowman, Bonnie Langford, Joel Grey, Elaine Paige and even Bernard Cribbins! The Players cast hope to do every one of them justice.

Anything Goes runs from 9 to 11 March in The Paget Rooms, Penarth and again in The Dolman Theatre, Newport from 30 March to 1 April 2023.

All Tickets are £13 and all performances start at 7:30pm (with doors opening at 7pm)

Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketsource.co.uk.
