PENARTH has rallied behind Anna and Tim, the daughter and father walking two miles a day for a local disability charity.

Now on just the third day of their challenge, they have raised £2,200 for Vale Plus, a Barry-based day centre for disabled people in the Vale and Cardiff.

They set out to raise just £100 by walking two miles a day around Penarth.

"We're just overwhelmed," Anna's mum Jane tells Nub News.

"We're receiving so many messages of support and it has been really moving."

Anna, who has down's syndrome, attends Vale Pus. Due to COVID, the charity has been unable to operate face-to-face.

But they have gone "above and beyond" to continue to help their families in every way they can.

They hold a 'weekly telephone befriending service', distribute learning packages, conduct Zoom teaching sessions and run exercise classes.

With the help of Fareshare and Adsa, they have also been able to provide weekly food parcels to their most vulnerable families.

All this in spite of their income streams drying up, such as their transportation service and cafe.

"They have been so kind to me," says Anna.

Following a social media campaign launched yesterday, Anna and Tim received over 150 donations in the space of just 12 hours.

They have earnt 2,200% of their target and received countless messages of support and kindness.

One said: "Anna and Tim, you're both WONDERFUL....what a brilliant thing to do!!! Hope the weather is kind to you!"

Penarth Athletics Club and Penarth Rugby Football Club are preparing a joint donation of £300.

Sarah Phillips, charity administrator at Vale Plus, has given her reaction:

"I could not believe the generosity of the community of Penarth. I am speechless and so overwhelmed."
