A popular Library of Things project run by Gwyrddio Penarth Greening is holding a community drop-in event on July 2 at The Kymin.
The event, which starts at 11:00 and finishes at 13:00, will give locals the opportunity to find out more about volunteering for the Benthyg Penarth project and how to borrow items they need at a low-cost, as well as participating in a range of free activities.
Visitors will be able to bring tools to be sharpened for free by a professional sharpening service – an offer likely to be particularly popular as we enter prime gardening season and discover last year's secateurs have gone rusty in the shed!
Household knives, axes, gardening secateurs, shears, and loppers will all be accepted - scissors, hedge trimmers or other blades will not. Organisers have asked visitors to take particular care when transporting these items to keep themselves and others safe.
Ella Smillie, Benthyg Penarth project manager, said: "These activities are all themed around helping people to make environmentally-friendly choices that save them money in the process - something that is at the forefront of everyone's minds at the moment."
The local PCSO will be on hand to provide security advice and bike stamping, while volunteers will also offer bike repairs.
There will be an opportunity to 'Ask the Expert' for advice on DIY projects and tools – including those available to borrow at low cost from the Library of Things and people will be able to sign up to attend DIY workshops taking place over the coming months.
Finally, visitors are invited to take the project's e-cargo bike for a spin and try it for themselves.
This event is a celebration of all things sustainable, giving people opportunities to repair, reuse and borrow, as well as an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the beautiful surrounding of the Kymin grounds.
