The long-held aim of charging for parking at Cosmeston and Porthkerry County Parks is a step nearer with the publication of legal notices by the Vale County Council.

Residents are given 21 days to comment on the proposals.

The Vale says that: ''Full details of the proposals, may be inspected on the Council's website at www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk and any objections you may have to this proposal must be submitted to the Director of Environment & Housing (Ref. IF922) in writing by 19th June 2020 and must contain the grounds upon which you object.''

The details of the proposals include:

• From 10 am until 8 pm between March and September and until 5 pm from October to February, it will cost £1 to park for up to two hours at either Porthkerry or Cosmeston Country Parks.

• Between two and four hours will cost £2, while the charge for all-day parking would be £4. The proposed charge for bus and coach parking is £30.00 all day.

• Parking permits will be available for six months at £30 or £50 for the year and can be used at either Country Park. Again, disabled persons with blue badges would park for free.

These are amended ideas on parking after the controversial town and coastal parking restrictions were binned when the council changed hands.

The Full details of the changes can be viewed here.

Chris Franks a Plaid Cymru community councillor was very critical of the plans.

He said "The County Councillors have caved in to demands from officers to try to charge at country parks and also town-centre car parks such as Town Hall Car Park, Cowbridge and Wyndham Street Car Park, Barry.

''Curiously Llantwit Major car parks have been omitted."
