Chance to comment on planned boundary changes

By Ted Peskett - Local Democracy Reporter 1st Feb 2023

Residents across the Vale of Glamorgan are being invited to share their thoughts on potential changes to their community boundaries.

The Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales has today (Wednesday, February 1) opened its initial consultation as the community review of the county gets underway.

The community review will look at all community boundaries within the Vale of Glamorgan, with changes to those boundaries possible where a need is identified.

Chief executive of the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales, Shereen Williams said: "Communities are the level of government closest to the people, and its vital that they continue to accurately represent people in every part of the Vale of Glamorgan.

"The commission's website is full of information on the review, and on communities in general so I would encourage everyone to find out more about what the changes could mean to them, and to submit their views before March 28."

The review will also explore the possibility of community ward boundary changes, along with the arrangements town and community councils. This includes the number of councillors who are elected to councils.

Changes to community boundaries are most likely in areas where there have been significant changes in recent years, for example where a new housing estate has been built which crosses an existing community boundary.

However, changes could be made to any community boundaries in the Vale of Glamorgan if responses to the commission's consultation indicate a need for change.

After the initial consultation has closed, the Boundary Commission for Wales will publish its draft proposals, which will then be subject to a further consultation period.

People can submit their views on whether or not there should be any changes to their communities and what changes should take place by emailing [email protected] or by writing in the post to LDBCW, Hastings House, Cardiff, CF24 0BL.
