People are stranded and houses have flooded as persistent heavy rain continues across South Wales.

Nub News have received reports of several closed roads across Penarth, Sully and Dinas Powys.

Houses off Cog Road in Sully have flooded, and the community has rallied in an attempt to clear several inches of water from a Conybeare Road property.

One resident claims to have been stuck in Penarth for two hours, unable to return to Sully.

South Wales Police have said they are "receiving reports that roads across South Wales are flooded."

They advise residents to only travel essential journeys and to "never drive through flood water."

Natural Resources Wales have issued a flood alert predominantly surrounding the Cadoxton River.

On social media images depicting a flooded house, a resident commented: "It is so awful that this has happened just before Christmas."

Cardiff Bus have cancelled several routes due to "closed roads leading to Barry and Penarth".

According to Dinas Powys Plaid Cymru, the following roads should be avoided:

-Cardiff Road Eastbrook

-Penyturnpike/Mill Road

-Millbrook Road

-Gardens of Elmgrove Place

-St Lythans Close

-Murch Road

-Lavernock Road
