BREAKING: Cardiff to enter local lockdown - Penarthians need

By Alex Jones

28th Sep 2020 | Local News

Penarthians will not be allowed to travel into and out of Cardiff without a reasonable excuse after 6PM on Sunday, when the capital plunges into local lockdown.

Swansea and Llanelli will also go into lockdown, joining six surrounding areas in south Wales already imposing strict measures (Caerphilly, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Bridgend, Blaenau Gwent, Merthyr Tydfil and Newport).

This comes amid the sharp rise in case numbers in these three areas, 25 in Carmarthenshire, 39 in Cardiff and 41 in Swansea.

The majority have been linked to people socialising without social distancing.

Under the restrictions, people will not be able to enter or leave without a reasonable excuse.

A "reasonable excuse" includes going to work where you cannot work from home, or using public services that are not available locally. This means some Penarth-based commuters will not be affected.

Cardiffians will not be able to meet indoors with anyone they do not live with, with extended households suspended.

People must work from home when possible, health minister Vaughan Gething told a press conference in Cardiff.
