Birthday celebrations at Penarth care home as resident turns 101
There were plenty of celebrations at a Penarth care home as a resident turned 101.
Doreen Evans, a resident at MHA Morel Court, celebrated her 101st birthday with a special party.
She was surrounded by her family and a special guest in Cllr Laura Rochefort, the mayor of Penarth.
The home offers 36 places for residential care and used the retreat room for the party, which included a beautiful birthday cake.
June Mansell, the community coordinator at MHA Morel Court, said: "Doreen became a teacher when she left school and travelled for a while before settling down to become a wife and mother, had three children, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
"She has been living at MHA Morel Court for more than ten years and is a very popular member of the home.
"She enjoyed the company of the mayor and was in a good mood.
"Doreen really likes it when her family comes to visit and often refers to it as a party when she gets to see them all."
"She was very happy to see her family and really enjoyed her day, for her the secret to a long life is to have a big family and one that is close by."
