Birthday Cake Surprises for Penarth Residents During Lockdown

The Coronavirus Care Support Network has come together with local businesses and individuals to make cakes for five nominated local residents whose birthdays fell during the lockdown period.

The nominations were made by Penarthians who felt that they knew someone who deserved a special treat during the coronavirus lockdown.

Volunteers of the care network then chose five of those nominees to receive a beautiful birthday cake.

They were created, baked and delivered by: Crepe Escape, the Glendale Hotel, Matt Prichard 'Dirty Vegan', James Sommerin and Willmore's 1938. Each cake can be viewed in the photo gallery above.

The recipients were extremely pleased with their surprise deliveries.

The video above is a compilation of all their reactions with lots of neighbours and passers-by coming onto the street to join in with the celebrations.

The cakes that have been delivered so far went out to Laura, who works for the NHS and was celebrating her 30th Birthday; a 10-year-old stuck in for her special day; 94-year-old Muriel who is self-isolating and Christine.
