It may be one of Penarth's oldest shops, but 60-year-old AB Snell & Son has just launched its online delivery service.

They've teamed up with neighbouring cafe Willmore's 1938 to reach as many customers as possible at this difficult time for Welsh businesses.

"We've been talking about it for years," Rick Snell tells Nub News. "And when we started doing home deliveries during the first lockdown, we suddenly realised we needed a mechanism that showcased us and made the whole thing more efficient."

The website enables customers to browse AB Snell's varied selection of items and place an order. Buyers can then choose to either collect their shopping from outside the Washington Buildings shop or have a home delivery.

"It's kind of like a local version of Amazon really. It took ages to sort out but we're already seeing the benefits," says Rick.

Included on the website is Willmore 1938's range. The two businesses have worked together on various projects in the past, so Willmore's Matt Holland says he didn't have to think twice about this collaboration.

"When Rick asked us if we wanted to be on the site, it was a no brainer really," says Matt. "It enables us to pool resources and limit the environmental impact of home delivery.

"Especially at the moment we need to make shopping locally as easy as possible - and this helps us to do that."

Rick echoes Matt's environmental emphasis:

"The primary motivation behind it is that we don't want two vans flying around town - with the carbon footprint and all the rest of it - so if we're going past one of their orders or we're going past one of theirs it makes sense.

"It's been a hit so far. As soon as we launched the site we got three new customers. The ironic thing is that the first one was for Willmore's!"
