The documentary series 'A Special School' which followed pupils and staff at Penarth's Ysgol Y Deri has been nominated for a BAFTA Cymru award.
First aired in September last year, the series gave viewers the chance to see what happens inside a special needs school.
Produced and directed by Ffion Humphries, 'A Special School' will compete against three other nominees in the Factual Series category at this year's BAFTA Cymru awards.
Headteacher Chris Britten praised Ffion and Slam Media for their work within the school.
"They did a really good job, and we were so pleased with the series," he told Nub News.
"A lot of people thought we were really brave to open our doors, and it did take a bit of trust. The BBC were brave enough to commission it, so we went for it.
"But it was a chance to show people what goes on inside a special school because I don't think many know.
"I wanted to showcase our pupils; they're differently abled and there's loads they can do. But they do face stereotypes."
The series was met with positive reviews, with many praising the relationships between pupils and staff. Ysgol y Deri has since been able to connect and work with schools around the globe.
The winners will be announced during a virtual ceremony, streamed across BAFTA's social channels at 7pm on Sunday 24 October 2021.
A Special School has been nominated alongside Cornwall: This Fishing Life, Critical: Inside Intensive Care and Rhod Gilbert's Work Experience.
"We're really pleased and think the nomination is very exciting," said Mr Britten.
"It's a big thing, going up against Rhod Gilbert!
"This is properly about taking part, not winning. It's a shame it's a virtual ceremony because we could have got our best frocks on, but we'll most likely record something for the virtual event," he said.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in Wales, BAFTA Cymru honours excellence in broadcasting and production within film and television in Wales.
This year's 30th anniversary awards will be presented across 22 craft, performance and production categories in film and television.
