A SHOPPING trip to a local supermarket turned into a memorable and confidence-boosting experience for a young woman from Sully, after she was invited to step behind the till and try her hand at scanning her shopping.

Lisa Ainsworth, 28, who attends Sully Day Opportunities, part of Salutem Care and Education, was visiting Morrisons with support worker Karen Davies when she was given the opportunity to scan the items and experience working on the checkout.

Lisa, who regularly takes part in a wide range of activities through the service, was said to have "absolutely loved" the experience, chatting and confidently scanning items with support from Morrisons colleagues.

The visit was part of a day focused on building independent living skills, which included shopping for the ingredients to prepare a homemade meal of quiche and loaded potatoes.

Staff at Morrisons were so impressed by Lisa's enthusiasm and engagement that they featured her on their Community Champions page, recognising her positive attitude and the joy she brought to the store.

Sully Day Opportunities provides social, educational and leisure activities for individuals, helping them to develop new skills, build confidence and connect with others in their community.

Karen Davies, who supported Lisa on the day, said the experience had a lasting impact.

She said: "Lisa had the most amazing time. She was smiling from ear to ear and really embraced the opportunity. Experiences like this are so important in building confidence and helping people feel part of their community."
