An ex-employee of Flybe and Penarth resident, who left the company just before it collapsed, spoke to Nub News about the announcement.

Charlotte said: ''I mean it's absolutely heartbreaking, I left my job with Flybe recently before this all happened.

''I was really shocked to learn about the news that Flybe had stopped operating.

''I was, of course, aware that they were in trouble at the end of the year but were bought out by Virgin and were going to be called Virgin Connect at the start of the year, but that agreement fell through.

''So, I knew Flybe was in a lot of trouble, but, I never thought they would stop operating so soon.

''With the coronavirus as well that was just the final push for Flybe, I am so sad.

''Working for Flybe was such an experience and I'm glad I was able to be a part of the team.

''I am gutted for all my colleagues who were still currently working there and I wish all employees of Flybe the best of luck and I hope everything works out from them.

''In regards to the aviation industry, I feel like it's definitely going to take a toll on a number of things, I mean Flybe was the largest regional airline in Europe and operated over 200 routes.

''Loyal customers such as businessmen who used Flybe every week are really going to be affected by this. Certain airports such as Exeter who especially relied on the operation of Flybe, are going to be seriously affected by this also.

''It's so sad especially with Thomas cook going bust recently, I really hope positive things happen to the aviation industry soon to make up for all the negative.''
