As Penarth welcomes a new Town Mayor, the council have had a chance to look back at the term of 2019/20 Town Mayor Cllr Angela Thomas.

They said: ''The Town Mayor is the 'First Citizen' of Penarth. This means performing ceremonial duties and acting as the public face of the Council. The Town mayor is also tasked with raising money for a charity of their choice during their time in office.

"Many will remember Councillor Angela Thomas and her Consort, Ms Emma Ross, who organised a range of colourful functions and events in the Paget Rooms in support of the Cardiff & Vale National Autistic Society Branch."

Throughout her term, Cllr Thomas was able to raise a whopping £2093.69 for the charity.

The National Autistic Society is UK's leading charity for autistic people and their families. their goal is to help transform lives, change attitudes, and create a society that works for autistic people by providing specialist support across the UK.

Councillor Angela Thomas said: "It was an honour and privilege to serve as Penarth's Mayor over the last year, although it didn't quite end as I thought it would. I am very proud to see the Penarth community coming together at this time.

"I also want to say a big thank you to everyone that has and supported my fundraising for the Cardiff & Vale National Autistic Society Branch over the last year."

Councillor Thomas' time as Mayor ended in May 2020. The Current Town Mayor, Cllr Mark Wilson, is currently planning fundraising events into 2020/21 for his two selected charities: LATCH and Welsh Hearts.
