'Harp in the Park' a socially-distanced hit

Local News by Alex Jones 6th Dec 2020

Harpist and music teacher Martha Powell teamed up with Piotr Skoczylas of Stol Coffee to bring soothing sounds to Alexandra Park this morning.

The performance, which lasted just over an hour, was attended by over 70 people who arrived in socially-distanced waves.

Piotr was surprised quite so many people showed up.

"I'm overwhelmed to be honest - it's amazing," he said. "I've totally sold out. All the cookies and coffees are gone.

"But the best thing is that people have been able to get out and listen to some music in a totally safe way."

Martha, who started playing the harp when she was six, did not expect to be paid for the performance.

"I just wanted to play people some music again," she told Nub News. "We've not had live gigs or anything for so long, so it's just really nice to give people an opportunity to hear music.

"I hope it becomes a regular thing because I just love doing it."
