Penarth Esplanade is due to undergo a makeover, as the Vale of Glamorgan Council has announced a series of improvement works to the area.

The Pier Pavilion, along with Penarth Pier and the street furniture of the Esplanade will be re-painted.

"Penarth Esplanade is getting a facelift!," said the Vale of Glamorgan Council in a Tweet.

"The pier, pavilion, railings, benches, bollards, lighting columns, decking, the Pier Head Hut and toilets will all be painted."

The Pier Pavilion is to remain open during the improvement works.

The Council also said that scaffolding will be erected in stages "to minimise disruption to businesses".

When the works will begin and end is yet to be announced.

Ben Rive, who runs Snowcat Cinema at the Pier Pavilion, was excited to see the finished results.

"It won't affect me directly as the cinema will stay open throughout, but I'm looking forward to seeing the building looking like new again.

"We'll be getting the fairy lights and decorations up for Halloween and then Christmas so it's going to look splendid for our festivities!"

At the start of the year, the Pier Pavilion fell back into the hands of its owner, the Vale of Glamorgan Council, after Penarth Arts and Craft Ltd were no longer able to maintain it.

The Council now manages the pavilion, saying it will "protect it as a community asset".

In March, a programme of cleaning, maintenance and repair began to ensure the pavilion is in "top condition" for its next chapter.

This included a "comprehensive cleaning regime" to improve the interior and exterior appearance of the pavilion, a thorough check of the fire alarm, and work to address a number of electrical issues.

Work was also scheduled to improve the heating system,
