Police have cordoned off a post box after it was nearly struck by concrete falling from a first-floor lintel last night.

The concrete dislodged from the art deco building adjacent to, and owned by, the post office on Albert Road.

The incident initially drew a large police presence. Debbie Lock, owner of Deco (the cafe which leases the ground and upper floors from the Post Office) told Nub News: "When I was on my way in this morning I saw that the police had cordoned off the whole area. I thought someone had been killed."

The falling rubble damaged a Deco sandwich board, which Debbie says is the "least of [her] worries".

According to Debbie, a Post Office surveyor called her this morning requesting that she organise the clean-up and repair operation.

The Post Office have since sent a maintenance crew to the site, who are at the time of writing contemplating how to approach the situation.

Deco remains open but the post box is closed to the public until further notice.
