An extremely frightened and cold cat has been freed from a three-inch narrow gap after becoming stuck between a garage and a wall.
UPDATE: The Owner of Max has been found and she has been taken home to rest and recover from her dramatic day.
The RSPCA was alerted to the distressed cat this morning (9 March) at 7.30 am at Conybeare Road, Sully.
A local Facebook group, Sully Village Hub, told Nub News of the incident after a member found the cat.
A local resident Nicky Parry said: ''We believe the cat was trapped for a few hours and was quite distressed as it was completely wedged in the narrow gap.
''The fire service were brilliant though and after trying various methods decided the best way would be to remove some bricks from the garage wall, which the owner allowed them to do.
''Took them a while to make a big enough hole but they eventually got the cat out safely and the RSPCA lady checked to see if it was chipped and then took it off to the vets.''
RSPCA inspector Sophie Daniels attended along with Barry fire station's red watch team from South Wales Fire & Rescue Service.
"This cat was certainly well and truly stuck and could only move his head," said Sophie. "I could reach my hands to him, but there was no room to get him out at all. You could see he was extremely frightened and cold and we had to act fast.
"The fire service was excellent and with the homeowner's permission, they removed bricks from the garage to release him.
"They had to make quite a bit of noise right by him which did cause him distress as he was shaking. But once he was out, I immediately scooped him up and took him to the vets for treatment where he has been placed on a heated blanket. Hopefully, after some rest and TLC he'll feel a lot better.
"We don't know how long he had been there, but there is a possibility he could have been there overnight.
"As well as the fire service who were fantastic as usual - I'd also like to thank the homeowners for calling us as well as letting the fire service knock through their garage wall to rescue this poor cat!"
As the black and white cat isn't microchipped, the RSPCA is now appealing for information to track down an owner.
Sophie said: "We've put his details on Pets Located and have put a poster up in the locality. There are also posts on Facebook to try and find out where he belongs.
"Anybody with information related to this cat can contact us on 0300 123 8018. Hopefully, he will be reunited with his owners - who are most probably worried about him if he hasn't come home - as soon as possible."
The RSPCA would like to remind people to get their pets microchipped to give their lost pets the chance of returning home. It is also important to register the chip with a national database and update your contact details if you move or change phone number.
