Penarth Mobile Repair and Vape, the 89 Plassey Street repair shop, has been burgled.

In the early hours of 15 January, three men clad in motorcycle helmets and gloves broke the padlock on the shop's shutters before using a crowbar to prise open the front door.

The thieves then grabbed and made off with a considerable loot of mobile phones and electronic cigarettes before returning for the shop's supply of e-scooters.

According to Dilawar Sohail, who owns the shop, roughly £7,000 worth of goods were stolen.

"At roughly 2:50am, they came and broke the lock on our shutters," he tells Nub News. "I have no idea how they did this as the camera was faced away and the lock is really thick.

"But we have a recording of them breaking the door with a crowbar. Then while the other two went in one of them stood outside holding a crowbar in case anyone walked by, which is very scary.

"So they took all the phones we had in the display and out back so we lost about 20 or 30 devices."

Dilawar's landlord, who occupies the flat above the shop, discovered the break in and alerted the shop owner immediately.

"I rushed in and when I saw that everything had been taken I was so shocked that I couldn't even move," said Dilawar.

"My next door neighbours are in shock because Penarth is meant to be a safe area."

Dilawar proceeded to call the police, who he says have not done enough so far to bring the perpetrators to justice.

"The forensics team came and couldn't find any fingerprints. There are about two cameras facing the shop so I want the police to check them and another council camera around the corner.

"They left at 2:57am and then returned after a few minutes to take the scooters, so they must have parked the car just around the corner. The police didn't even bother to look at the CCTV," he added.

"They haven't closed the case but I'm still waiting to hear from them. They don't really want to do their job properly I think."

Tragically for Dilawar, his shop was not insured at the time of the burglary.

"It's my first business and I didn't have any experience so it's an awful time for me right now," he said.

"This on top of lockdown will make it very hard to cover the rent this month. I will probably have to borrow from my dad or something.

"I have to stay positive though - that's the only thing getting me through right now."

South Wales Police have been approached for comment. According to Dilawar, the case is still ongoing.
