Penarth has once again been named as one of the 'best places to live in the UK' by the Sunday Times. Ten Welsh places were nominated in the well-renowned listing. The Sunday Times report on Penarth says that ''the best address in Cardiff isn't in Cardiff''.
Penarth has been awarded this title for four years consecutively. In the 2019 addition, the Sunday Times article says, ''Penarth has everything for the hip, health conscious high-flyer''.
Helen Davies, the Times home editor, says that ''this year we've noticed that community is more important than ever''. She points to the importance of local shops and community driven projects. ''Culture is thriving from independent bookshops to community cinemas''.
In Penarth, this point is particularly evident, with its sense of independence in the shops and high street. Griffin Books, located on Windsor Road, has always been invested in the community. The Penarth Pier Pavillion similarly provides a space that can be enjoyed by the whole town.
With Shop Penarth, a shop local initiative, being revamped in 2017 and new local businesses like Craft Devil Brew opening on the high street, it seems that Penarth is welcoming a revived sense of community and localism.
