Care home staff at MHA Morel Court in Penarth have raised £200 to buy essentials for those living in the Ukraine crisis.

The team took less than a day to get together, raise the funds, purchase the items and then deliver them to the nearest collection point in Newport.

Items such as toiletries, sanitary products as well as cereal, non-perishable items and tea bags were bought from various shops.

Mandy Jenkins, admin manager at Morel Court, said: "The crisis has affected everyone on an international level and when some of the staff members saw what was happening, they wanted to do something to support those who are affected.

"So many people are struggling to access basic needs and I am very proud of those who stepped up and contributed.

"They approached the home manager, had a whip-round, and managed to raise more than £200 which was a great effort.

Mandy continued: "They managed to tick off all the items that were given to them on a list from a local collection service and even dropped the items to them.

"All those who contributed deserve a huge round of applause and hopefully it will make others contribute and help those who are in dire need."
